Generalized Chaplygin gas as a unified scenario of dark matter/energy: observational constraints
نویسنده
چکیده
Although various cosmological observations congruously suggest that our universe is dominated by two dark components, the cold dark matter without pressure and the dark energy with negative pressure, the nature and origin of these components is yet unknow. The generalized Chaplygin gas (gCg), parametrized by an equation of state, p = −A/ραgCg, was recently proposed to be a candidate of the unified dark matter/energy (UDME) scenarios. In this work, we investigate some observational constraints on it. We mainly focus our attention on the constraints from recent measurements of the X-ray gas mass fractions in clusters of galaxies published by Allen et al. (2002,2003) and the dimensionless coordinate distances to type Ia supernovae and Fanaroff-Riley type IIb radio galaxies compiled by Daly and Djorgovski (2003). We obtain the confidence region on the two parameters fully characterizing gCg, As ≡ A/ρ (1+α) gCg0 and α, from a combined analysis of these databases, where ρgCg0 is the energy density of gCg at present. It is found that As = 0.70+0.16 −0.17 and α = −0.09 +0.54 −0.33, at a 95% confidence level, which is consistent within the errors with the standard dark matter + dark energy model, i.e., the case of α = 0. Particularly, the standard Chaplygin gas (α = 1) is ruled out as a feasible UDME by the data at a 99% confidence level.

A New Generalized Chaplygin Gas as a Scheme for Unification of Dark Energy and Dark Matter
We propose in this paper a new model for describing the unification of dark energy and dark matter. This new model is a further generalization of the generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG) model, thus dubbed new generalized Chaplygin gas (NGCG) model. The equation of state of the NGCG is given by p = −Ã(a)/ρα, where a is the scale factor and Ã(a) = −wXAa −3(1+wX)(1+α). We show that the NGCG model is t...

متن کاملWMAP and the Generalized Chaplygin Gas
We compare the WMAP temperature power spectrum and SNIa data to models with a generalized Chaplygin gas as dark energy. The generalized Chaplygin gas is a component with an exotic equation of state, pX = −A/ρ α X (a polytropic gas with negative constant and exponent). Our main result is that, restricting to a flat universe and to adiabatic pressure perturbations for the generalized Chaplygin ga...
متن کاملModified Chaplygin Gas and Constraints on its B parameter from CDM and UDME Cosmological models
We study Modified Chaplygin Gas (MCG) as a candidate for dark energy and predict the values of parameters of the gas for a physically viable cosmological model. The equation of state of MCG (p = Bρ − A ρ ) involves three parameters: B, A and α. The permitted values of these parameters are determined with the help of dimensionless age parameter (Hoto) and H(z) − z Data. Specifically we study the...
متن کاملOn the Width of the Last Scattering Surface
We discuss the physical effects of some accelerated world models on the width of the last scattering surface (LSS) of the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMBR). The models considered in our analysis are X-matter (XCDM) and a Chaplygin type gas. The redshift of the LSS does not depend on the kind of dark energy (if XCDM of Chaplygin). Further, for a Chaplygin gas, the width of the LSS is ...
